Auf dem Gelände der Alten Münze in Berlin soll ein Zentrum für Jazz und Improvisierte Musik und deren Schnittstellen mit anderen Formen aktueller Musik entstehen. Eine 8-tägige Residenz mit Künstler*innen und Theoretiker*innen befasst sich Anfang Februar 2024 mit aktuellen und künftigen Fragestellungen und den örtlichen Gegebenheiten in einem öffentlichen und werkstatthaften Prozess. Für diese Residenz können sich professionelle Musikerinnen mit Lebensmittelpunkt in Berlin bewerben.
Die Zielsetzung von „STOPover“ ist die direkte Begegnung künftiger Nutzer*innen und Besucher*innen mit den Bedingungen vor Ort, der Austausch mit den jetzigen Nutzer*innen und der Beginn einer Verortung des Zentrums in der Alten Münze: als Zwischenstation auf dem Weg eines „Zentrum under construction”.
Diese erste Werkstatt widmet sich dezidiert der Raumfrage und bildet damit den Auftakt einer Reihe weiterer Werkstätten. Sie fragt nach Raumpotentialen für die Anforderungen des künftigen Zentrums im Konkreten, befasst sich aber auch grundsätzlich mit dem Zusammenhang von Raum und Produktion, sowie Raum und Performance und Rezeption. Sie findet hauptsächlich in der Alten Münze statt, stellt aber auch Bezüge zu anderen Orten her und lotet Potentiale der Kooperation und anderen Formen der Zusammenarbeit aus.
Die Werkstatt ist ein offener Raum, lädt täglich ein, vorbeizuschauen, in den Austausch zu gehen oder auch spontan teilzunehmen. Die Strukturen und Funktionen der Innenräume werden gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmer*innen vor Ort entwickelt.

„STOPover“ Open Call for Collaboration and Improvisation +++ Deadline November 12, 2023
On the premises of the Alte Münze in Berlin, a centre for jazz and improvised music and its intersections with other forms of contemporary music is set to be established. A 8-day residency with artists and theorists will engage in early February 2024 with current and future questions and the local conditions in a public and workshop-like process. Professional musicians living in Berlin can apply for the residency.
The objective of "STOPover" is to facilitate a direct encounter between future users and visitors with the conditions on-site, to foster exchange with current users, and to initiate the positioning of the centre in Alte Münze as an interim step in the creation of a "Zentrum-under-construction."
This first workshop is dedicated to the question of space and is the prelude to a series of further workshops. It explores the spatial potential for the specific requirements of the future centre, delving into the relationship between space and production, as well as space and performance and reception. While primarily taking place in Alte Münze, it also establishes connections to other locations, exploring potential for collaboration and alternative forms of cooperation.
The workshop is an open space, welcoming visitors daily for discussions and spontaneous participation. The structures and functions of the interior spaces will be developed collaboratively with participants on-site.
